“Why I Bleed Orange”

By Caitlin Edwards

Like many UT students, some of my earliest memories are of watching the Longhorns play football – at home, at DKR, with friends and with family. I planned to go to UT since about 5th grade, before I really understood how incredible it is to attend THE University of Texas. My grandparents have had football season tickets since before I can remember and we have always gone to football, volleyball, basketball, and baseball games, instilling in me a passion for the Longhorns early on. Because my mom went to UT and my dad went to A&M, we have always had a thriving family rivalry; needless to say, burnt orange is in my blood. Attending UT has more than exceeded the expectations I have had all my life for my college experience. By being in the Liberal Arts Honors Program, pledging Kappa Delta Sorority and becoming a Young Life leader, I have been able to be a part of smaller communities which help me to be strongly connected to the larger UT community.

None of this would have been possible without the various scholarships I have received over the past 3 years. I have been extremely blessed to receive both need based and merit based scholarships each year. This money has allowed me to not have a job while in school which in turn allows me to focus on academics and being involved in the Austin community through my sorority and Young Life. I also received several scholarships last spring that allowed me to study abroad in Argentina for 6 weeks this summer. My time there expanded and deepened my university education in countless ways. Because of scholarships, I have been able to get the most out of my time at the University of Texas and have been able to fully experience what this incredible place has to offer.

{Editor’s Note: Scholarships mentioned are not necessarily related to UT scholarships funded by the sale of H2Orange Purified Texas Water.}
